Senator Weaver Refuses to Release Bill From the Senate Rules Committee
Preferring to ignore the wishes of his constituents and to, in his own words, “defer to the Board of Trustees,” Senator Stanley Weaver refused to release House Bill 1208 from the Senate Rules committee thereby killing any hope for the bill during the current legislative session.
Speaking to GEO members who went to Springfield for a last attempt to win the release of the bill, Weaver, who chairs the powerful Rules Committee, told them that there was a “leadership consensus that the bill was not to leave the Rules committee.”
The Senate Rules committee is the gateway which controls which bills are to be voted on by other Senate committees and therefore what bills have the possiblity to be voted on by the full Senate.
