Job Opening: Union Organizer
The Graduate Employees’ Organization, AFT Local 6300, is accepting applications for an organizer position. GEO is currently negotiating a union contract for 2,500 graduate employees at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Requirements: at least 1 year of organizing experience, basic familiarity with computers, and strong communication and organization skills required. Familiarity with unions and knowledge of the GEO campaign preferred. Special consideration will be given to applicants who can speak Chinese or Korean, and/or have a graduate degree.
Job Duties: help build membership and identify and train new leaders.
Hours: 20 hours per week, possible full-time employment, flexible scheduling
Compensation: $12 to $16 per hour depending upon experience. We will provide a health insurance stipend of up to $250 a month.
Duration: January 15 to May 7 with possibility of extended employment.
