In Fall 2004 the Graduate Employees’ Organization completed a survey of graduate employees about their health insurance coverage. The results( click here for the full report) of this survey demonstrates that graduate employees are faced with drastic decisions between insuring their children or their spouses and leaving graduate school or taking out loans for medication and durable medical equipment. Graduate employees also cite the inadequacy of catastrophic coverage as a leading health care concern.
On March 10th the GEO urges you to bring your concerns to the UI Board of Trustees. The GEO Health Care Working Group has already presented its report to the University and would like concerned graduate employees, spouses, and friends to take further action. You can sign a postcard urging the Board to change the health insurance available to graduate employees and attend the March 10th Board of Trustees meeting.
