Several members have called the office requesting information on how to receive their union-negotiated health fee waivers over the summer. Graduate students with assistantships are entitled to a $50 subsidy of student health insurance and a full subsidy of the McKinley Fee (aka Health Services Fee).
Grads must request to extend their insurance and McKinley coverage through the summer semester. All of us, regardless of employment status, must pay for our student insurance coverage up front. The University will credit the $50 union benefit to graduate employees’ accounts. You should contact McKinley to ensure summer coverage, but the McKinley fee does not have to be paid in advance. The fee will be assessed to your account along with the McKinley Fee waiver resulting in a zero balance.
