AFSCME PICKET THIS THURSDAY! (June 22)

AFSCME Local 698 continues to fight for a fair contract. GEO members showed great support for their union brothers and sisters at a similar picket 2 weeks ago. Let’s show them that we still have their backs!

AFSCME 698
INFORMATIONAL PICKET
June 22, 2006 – 4:30 – 5:30pm
Kirby Ave and Oak Street

Contract negotiations have been going on since early Fall and recently Local 698 requested arbitration. They have not received a raise since August of 2004. AFSCME Local 698 is the oldest local on campus and represents a diverse group of employees, including library specialists, agricultural workers, animal caretakers, aircraft mechanics, crash rescue and security specialists, telephone operators, storekeepers, nurses, nurse practitioners, radiographers and others in McKinley and the theatrical stitchers who work at Krannert.
The UI has offered them a 2% year one with no back pay…with year two and three at 1.5% LESS than the rate the UI gives to other employees in those years! The UI says that is their best and last offer!
If you have questions you can contact Vice President Margaret Lewis at 417-0948 or President of the local Jim McGuire at 649-7641.
