Statement in Solidarity With Nissan Auto Workers

Nissan auto workers in Canton, Mississippi have come together to fight low pay and unsafe working conditions in their first vote to unionize on Aug 3 & 4, 2017. Since the declaration of their decision to vote, Nissan, the auto giant has intensified its efforts to discourage its African American majority workforce from unionizing through interrogations, intimidating meetings and threats of firings and shut downs. We, the Graduate Employees’ Organization at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign stand in solidarity with the workers of Nissan in Mississippi and demand that Nissan respect its workers’ right to have a say in their working conditions:
